Peter Sloly is an Executive Director who is leading the “Security & Justice” industry practice for Deloitte Canada. He is an internationally recognized thought leader and in demand public speaker on policing, security and justice related issues. He has become a trusted advisor to private and public sector leaders and helps them to identify future threats/opportunities and navigate the “new normal” of ever increasing digitization, complexity and change. Peter Sloly enables public and private organizations to improve safety, service, trust and value.
Peter Sloly was a decorated veteran member of the Toronto Police Service (TPS) who attained the rank of Deputy Chief of Police. He participated in the following international policing programs: the FBI National Academy, the Pearls in Policing Program and the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) where he served for two tours of duty as a Command Staff Officer and the Canadian Contingent Commander.
Peter Sloly received many awards including; Officer of the Order of Merit “Police Forces” Medal, the United Nations Peacekeeping medal, the Canadian Peacekeeping Medal, the Police Exemplary Service Medal and the Queen’s Jubilee Medal for public service.
Peter Sloly has a Masters of Business Administration (Schulich School of Business – York University) and a Bachelor of Arts, Sociology (McMaster University). He has authored numerous articles and he was an Adjunct Professor at the University of Guelph-Humber. Prior to his policing career, Peter Sloly was a professional soccer player and represented the Canadian National Soccer Team. He currently sits on several local, national and international NGO Boards.
Peter Sloly has the following specific local and international incident management and incident command experience:
Public Order Unit (POU): Member of the TPS Public Order unit from 1999-2006. Received POU training at the local, provincial and national level. Participated in numerous POU operational callouts including; PC Convention, Economic Summit and assigned as site commander for the May 2-4 Weekend and Caribbanna Festival Weekend crowd management events (2003-2006)
Incident Command System and Incident Management System (ICS & IMS): Achieved ICS Certification Levels 100-400 through British Columbia Institute of Justice (2008-2009). Participated in numerous ICS/IMS operational plans and events from 1999-2015 (including events that took place in the two tours of duty in UNMIK). Specifically assigned as site commander (Toronto Floods – 2013), incident commander (Caribana Festival – 2003), Duty Operations Center Commander (Tamil Demonstrations – 2009) and EOC Commander (G20 – 2010)
Emergency Preparedness: Reviewed and overhauled all Incident Command, Business Continuity and Emergency Preparedness policies, programs and practices for the TPS from 2008-2009. This included the creation of the TPS Incident Command Cadre (2008) and the establishment of ICS as the TPS and Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police standard for incident command (2009).
