Matthew Davies is an Assistant Vice-President at Chubb Insurance Company of Canada with product management responsibilities for Professional, Media and Cyber Liability. Matthew started his career in Montreal in 1988 as an Insurance Broker, later moving to underwriting with an international insurer and worked in that capacity in both Montreal and Vancouver. He also gained broader casualty experience working for a reinsurer before joining Chubb in Vancouver in 1997. At Chubb, Matthew has underwritten Property and Casualty coverages as well as Executive Protection and Financial Institutions products. He transferred to Toronto in 2002 to set up the Canadian operations of ChubbPro. Matthew is frequent speaker at insurance industry events across Canada and in the United States on topics concerning errors and omissions, media liability, social media; and cyber exposures.

Holding an industry designation of Fellow, Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP) and a diploma in Risk Management (CRM), he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations at the University of British Columbia and a Master of Arts degree in History from McGill University.

Beyond his career in insurance, Matthew is a Logistics Officer with the rank of Commander in the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) Reserve. He completed senior officer courses at the NATO School in Oberammergau, Germany; the Joint Services Command and Staff College in Shrivenham, United Kingdom; and is a graduate of the Canadian Forces College in Toronto. Matthew was deployed on an operational tour of duty at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics as the Assistant Chief of Staff – Logistics for the RCN’s mission in support of the Games on OPERATION PODIUM. From July 2007 through July 2011, he was the Commanding Officer of Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship YORK, Toronto’s Naval Reserve Division. Following his command tour, he assumed a national role as Branch Advisor to the Commander of the Naval Reserve in respect of Naval Combat Support occupations. Matthew’s current appointment, as of 1 July 2015, is as the Liaison Officer for the Greater Toronto Area for the Canadian Forces Liaison Council – the bridge between employers and the Reservists whom they employ. In addition, Matthew is an Aide de Camp (AdC) to Her Honour, Elizabeth Dowdeswell, the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.
