Alex LaPlante is the Managing Director of Research at the Global Risk Institute in Financial Services (GRI). Dr. LaPlante manages GRI’s internal research initiatives and external collaborations, sets GRI’s overall research strategy, and conducts her own original research. She is also member of the International Centre for Pension Management’s Research Committee.
Dr. LaPlante’s current research interests are machine learning, big data, and ESG risks. Prior to joining GRI, Dr. LaPlante was a Director of Enterprise Analytics at CIBC, where she led a range of data analytics projects in treasury, capital markets, and client insights.
Dr. LaPlante holds MASc and PhD degrees in operations research from the University of Toronto, where she studied operational efficiency and growth potential of bank branch networks, and a BASc in mechanical engineering from the University of Windsor. She also holds a Certificate in Quantitative Financial Risk Management from the University of Waterloo.
